Reviews

I think his review was very good and i particularly liked the way he described it as a "marathon inside a rave inside a fusion reactor." This person liked the film. But basicly he was writing a summary of the entire movie, scene by scene. I did not think this review was not very good. to read the review, open the link above.

Chracter Features.
In this film Tom Tykwer has used many visual and verbal techniques to make Lola a
memorable character.
Lola is a memorable character because she is active and energetic we can see this
portrayed in her running abilities, whether it is to the bank or to save Manni. Tom
Tykwer has used a range of camera techniques to emphasise this. One example is
the tracking shots when the camera moves beside Lola when she is running. This
gives the impression that she really is running and it makes the audience feel that
they are part of the film. By using this technique Tom Tykwer has made Lola a
memorable character.
The second feature used to make Lola memorable is the fast-paced music. This
techno music plays whenever Lola is running; this music is used to draw the
audience in. Tom Tykwer has suited the music to the mood of the movie well.
Whenever Lola is running the music is pumping, but when she is stationary there is
very little or no music, if there is music it is very unlike the up beat techno music that
plays as she runs. This whole feature is of paramount importance in the movie
because it gives the audience a feeling of being right there beside Lola as she runs
to save Manni. The music also provides the mood that the movie is set in.
The third feature used to make Lola a memorable character is the colour red. In the
film Lola has bright red hair, this makes her stand out of the crowd. You are never
unsure if Lola is on scene because the redness of her hair is very bold against any of
the backgrounds in the movie. Lola’s red hair suites her personality because she is
stubborn, feisty and rebellious; all of these characteristics can be associated with
the colour red. Another instance in the film is between each of the stories after either
Lola or Manni has been killed and they are lying in bed together having a deep and
meaningful conversation. Tom Tykwer has put a red gel over the camera lens,
bathing the scene in a red glow. This shows that these scenes are meant to be
passionate because red is a passionate colour. These colour techniques make Lola
a memorable character because the red is bright and bold so that we know that
whenever we see red in the film it is associated with Lola.
The final feature Tom Tykwer has used to make Lola a memorable character is the
quality of film used. Whenever Lola is on scene Tom Tykwer has used 35mm film,
this makes the scene appear vibrant, bright and full of life. The second quality of film
used is VHS; this is used whenever Lola is not on scene, this is an excellent use of
contrast by making other characters appear grainy, vague and boring, but the
second Lola comes back on scene Tom Tykwer immediately starts using the 35mm
high-definition film again. Tom Tykwer has used technique very effectively to show
us that Lola is the most important character in the film even when she is not on
scene by making the other characters in the film appear humdrum. This use of
changing the quality of the film has made Lola a very memorable character.
In conclusion Tom Tykwer has used a range of visual and verbal features to make
Lola a memorable character.
